Hi Linda, I have what I believe is a photograph of Sam and I have a hand saw with S. E. Hoge marked on the blade. I also have copies two documents (c 1880) that were political requests to President Garfield proposing to have him appointed a US Marshal. Oddly, they are typeset, maybe from the congressional record? I don't believe he was appointed, and he soon married Julia. I also have a copy of a record of his service in the militia during the Civil War. I assume you are in California, MO, and that several other Hoge's live there. There are not many Hoge's in this part of Ohio. Bob
