I am also descended from the William Hoge and Barbara Hume line through my mother who uses the spelling "Hogue".
In 1760 James Hoge, grandson of William and Barbara, dismissed the Quakers. In 1789 James' son Jacob was "disowned" by the Quakers and changed the name from "Hoge" to "Hogue". Family history says the spelling change was a result of the tiff with the Quakers and, as far as I know, Jacob's line is the only one to adopt this spelling.
This is the only spelling variation I am aware of in this line, but that is not to say another does not exist.
