Dear Don,

I live in D.C., originally I am from Buffalo, NY. My great grandfather (Martin Lougen) married a woman named Maria Gertrut Schmidt in Buffalo. Her mother was Anna Maria Hoelscher, born near Hanover, Germany in a little town named Wellingholzhausen. Among my grandfather's siblings, several had Baptismal godparents who were Hoelschers with names like Mary, Frederick and Hermann. They lived in Saint Mary's Parish at Broadway and Pine in Buffalo. I am not in D.C. right now where I have more accurate information than relying on my memory right now. In our oral family tradition, I was told that the Hoelschers made candy and we were not related to the Hoelschers meat people. But I really have little information.

In the old French and German Roman Catholic cemetery (now Mount Calvary) I have seen many Hoelscher graves, but I am not sure how they all fit together.

I am interested in any info you might have.

Happy New Year,
Louis Lougen
