I should have extracted the earlier census records before posting because they answered my own questions... In the 1840 and 1850 censuses, Michael HILEMAN is Joseph HILEMAN. Once I realized he was Joseph Michael HILEMAN -- or Michael Joseph HILEMAN -- I found at WorldConnect that Joseph was the son of Johann Michael HEILMAN/HILEMAN (1756-1845) & Anna Maria YOUNG (1767-1824) and that, indeed, Eliza was Eliza KAPP, daughter of Andrew KAPP/KOPP.
