Hi Linda:
Re your post:I am related to George Washington Hardisty 1835-1913 married to Suzann[sic] Dow His son was also named George Washington Hardisty 1865-1912 married to Mathilda Reid. Geo & Mathilda had a daughter Doris b. 1895 d. 1896 plus 7 siblings none of whom was renamed for the deceased sib, a not uncommon practice. Geo. W. Jr also named a son George b.1903. These Hardistys were from Montreal,Lachine & Chateaugay,Quebec. It would seem that your names and mine are the only coincidence. Here are some possible directions to take with your search: although my Hardistys don't appear to be linked to the famous Hudson Bay Company factor Richard Hardisty, you might want to check the Bow Museum fonds online. His descendants settled in mid western Canada. The HBC Hardisty(& Smith) had ties to Montreal,a fur trade and banking centre of the time. The father of George Washington Hardisty (b.1835)was Henry Hardisty;b.1809 in London,England, married there(Saint Anne Soho)and immigrated to Canada before his first child was born. Henry's first child,a daughter,my gr-gr-grandmother was born in Ontario in 1834. The rest,G.W.included, were born in Quebec. Henry Hardisty's descendants have a possible 19C link to Troy, N.Y., one son John lived and worked in Ottawa, Ontario and later generations to other states. They were mostly Presbyterian.
If you want me to expand on any of these and other Hardistys please ask via the forum or email me.
