Hi, William

Thanks for the additional info. Sure appears to me that the year of death of Thomas Monroe Hardeman should be 1861. I am going with that in my data, with suitable explanation, of course. I have also wondered about that picture of Ezekiel Polk in the 1984 revision of "The Polks of North Carolina and Tennessee." It cannot be a photograph of Ezekiel Polk because he died 31 Aug 1824 in Hardeman Co., TN. (proven), and we know that photography was not even in existence then. The earliest pictures I know of were in the late 1830s or early 1840s, and if I recall, in Europe. I have studied that picture a lot and it sure appears (to me) to be a photograph, not a painting. I say this because of the details in it, which probably would not be in a painting. So, if it is a photograph, it is not Ezekiel Polk. I tend to believe it is a descendant of his and the family line just thinks it is Ezekiel. I have no information on the painting nor do I know where it is currently. Evelyn Tate Buchanan descends from Ezekiel via his daugter Clarissa, who m. Thomas McNeal. Their daughter Prudence Tate McNeal m. John Houston Bills. Their son Leonidas Isaac Bills m. Mary Margaret Miller. Their daughter Evelyn McNeal Bills m. Mallory Dickson Tate. Their daughter Evelyn Mallory Tate m. the Buchanan and that, per the text under the picture in the 1984 publication, is the one who provided the picture used. Thanks again, and if you ever need anything more on Polk, I am at billpolk@publicnetworking.org.. feel free to contact me. Bill
