I am looking for information on Harber’s Boarding House in Pennington Gap, Virginia. The boarding house was owned by John and Mary “Mollie” Burkhart Harber. My grandmother, Katherine Harber Baird, grew up in the boarding house; John and Mollie were her grandparents. She is going to be 80 this November, and for her birthday, we are collecting stories about the boarding house. While we have collected a some information from her (she doesn’t know what we are up to), we would love to hear from anyone who remembers the boarding house, and we would really love to see some pictures, since the house was torn down years ago. The church Mollie helped build is still standing next to the house site, which faces the railroad tracks. We would really like to know if anyone knows what became of a decorative window from the boarding house; it was inscribed “God is Love.” If you have any information or photos, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you so much!
