Helen R. Hanna Obit
ADRIAN — Helen R. Hanna, age 84, of Adrian, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Bixby Medical Center. Helen was born February 21, 1924, in Adrian, the daughter of Arthur and Eda (Vogt) Matthes. On December 20, 1942, Helen married Richard J. Hanna in Adrian. Richard, her husband of over 51 years, preceded her in death on May 19, 1994.
Helen was a licensed real estate agent as well as broker. She worked in the real estate business for several years prior to opening Helen Hanna Realty in Manitou Beach in the late 1950s. In 1984 Helen retired and moved with her husband to South Carolina, returning to Michigan in 1994.
Church was always a big part of Helen’s life. She attended St. John’s Lutheran Church in Adrian, Our Savior Lutheran Church in Hudson, where Helen played the organ for many years, and Trinity Lutheran Church in Bryan, Ohio. In her spare time Helen enjoyed flower gardening and knitting.
Surviving Helen are her children, Richard J. (Jeannette) Hanna of Bryan, Ohio, William J. (Rosanne) Hanna of San Diego, Calif., Mark S. Hanna of Cement City, Mich., and Kim S. (William) Edison of Hudson; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Matthes of Adrian.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
A memorial service for Helen will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2008, at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Adrian, with the Rev. Joel Sarrault officiating. Friends may visit the family at the church on Sunday from 1 until the time of the service. Those wishing to make a contribution in memory of Helen may direct their gifts to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Adrian. Envelopes will be available at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Wagley Funeral Home.
