I am trying to find information on my paternal great great grandmother. I believe she was born as Mary COYNE to Patrick COYNE (1834-?) and Bessie A. COYNE. **Patrick came over from Sligo, Ireland in about 1850 Mary COYNE married John CROWLEY. Together they had a son John Anthony HAMILTON (1894-1978) who married Florence WEIMERS (daughter to Anton W. WEIMERS & Rosina KUHN) After John CROWLEY passed, Mary began using the last name HAMILTON. Her son, John Anthony legally changed his last name to HAMILTON before he married Florence. Mary was known as Mary E. Hamilton when she became the first woman police officer in NYC. I have an original badge of hers that was valid in the year 1922. She has written one book as well on the struggles of women in the police department. My family has little information on her and I really would love for anybody to let me know any details they may know. -Dave Hamilton |
