I have French Canadian Hamel's living in Calhoun, County, Illinois at this time. This is very close to Florence, Pike County, just down the Illinois River. I would love to explore this further with you. My Pierre Hamel married a Charpentier (Carpunkey) from Pike County. Do you know if there was a french speaking colony there as there was in Calhoun, County in French Hollow, north of Hardin, Calhoun County, Illinois?
