Hi Louise,

There is no record showing Prudence Hall with a first
name Harriet. That appears to come from researchers
of the family, but no records (John Hall's will &
estate papers nor Prudence Hall Harris' own will &
estate records) indicate such a first name. Also,
middle names were rare for persons of non-German
families at the time of Prudence's birth (1740's).
Middle names came to be used more generally
after the end of the Revolutionary War.

The source of this error is a mystery. Probably it came
from an early attempt at a Hall family history. One of my
Farris cousins (Annie Farris Lumpkin) was interested in
family history and was a Hall descendant through Harriet
Hetley West. She told a story about a Prudence Hall saving
a wounded militiaman named John Forbes (my ancestor)
during the Revolutionary War. But from the description of
"Prudie Hall" it was a young woman (John & Prudence's
daughter Prudence?), not Prudence Patterson Hall herself.
The Halls and Forbes families lived near each other.

It is alleged that Prudence was a sister of John Patterson
(1739-1814)(also buried at Bethel Presb. Churchyard in York
County, SC, near the Halls). I have not been able to find
confirmation of the kinship, but would be interested in
doing so. John Patterson, my ancestor, was involved in
John Hall's estate, but no kinship is stated. Nor have I
been able to confirm Prudence's maiden name. John &
Prudence were in Rowan County, North Carolina, before
moving to the area that became (1785) York Co., SC.

Jennet Hall, daughter of John & Prudence, married William
Faries, son of James Faries, Sr., and Jean (Adair) Faries.
An earlier researcher confused her husband with his brother
Alexander Faries (born 1758) who married Elizabeth Strain.
This Alex Faries along with his father James and brother
William was involved (as a buyer) in John Hall's estate.
The same researcher also confused Jennet's husband with
my ancestor, another Alexander Faries (1740-1824), who
married Janet James. Jennet & William Faries (Faires)
moved to Lauderdale County, Alabama.
