To Gladys DIECKMANN.
I sent you yesterday a mail related to my research re Louis de VIGNIER in Cuba. Do you have any information ??
Louis is probably linked to Arnoldo VIGNIER du RETAIL (he might be his first son Louis Edmond but I am not sure at all).
What I know about Arnoldo is as follows:
Arnold Rene Marie VIGNIER de La SALINE (VIGNIER du RETAIL was the name of his uncle Pierre Francois VIGNIER du RETAIL, captain of the militias of L'Arcahaye, died 1794), born Dec 17, 1771 in L'Arcahaye (Haiti), died Feb 29, 1836 in Saint-Germain en Laye (France), married Sep 8, 1809 in Philadelphia (USA) to Henriette Nicole Therese MARIANI.
Arnold is the son of Rene Michel VIGNIER de La SALINE, born around 1739 in Haiti ??, died Feb 27, 1787 in Paris (France) and of Ursule O'GORMAN, married Oct 12, 1770 in Aquin (Haiti). He is the grand son of Pierre VIGNIER, born in Oleron (France), died Mar 5, 1743 in L'Arcahaye, settles in Haiti where he married Marie Catherine BELIN Apr 19, 1727. He is the ggson of Pierre VIGNIER, wholesaler living in Oleron (France), married to Marie SABOURIN.
We have to remember that the present Republic of Haiti and the Dominican Republic are part of the same island which was named, at that time, Saint-Domingue, which was either Spanish or French or partly Spanish and French...
Hope this helps you. Awaiting your info re Louis de VIGNIER, ascendant of my wife.
