It was interesting to hear the story about the desdunes. I use to hear the same story from my grandfather. It was slightly different but within the same time frame. The Desdunes fled Haiti after the war for independence. Dessaline had ordered that all slave owners must be killed. Out of five brothers two Desdunes fled Haiti because they(Slave Owners)lost the war. After things calm down in Haiti, they sent their sons(mulatto)to try to claim there wealth (plantations and money). The area they owned is called Desdunes in the Artibonite Valley, Haiti. The two brothers were named Paul Emile and Morinville. These names are still being used today by their descendants. The actual full last name was Rosignol-Lachicotte-Desdunes. Later on, the first two names were dropped.
