My great-grandfather was Edouard Frederick de Launay. His father was a count and he was from Hon Fleur, France, west of Paris. His wife was Marie Maltilde del Cory from Paris. Am not sure if he went to both Haiti and Cuba or not. The family stories say he did and while there they had a daughter that died. Were told they then went to New York and then down to Louisiana. My grandfather's name is William Frederick de Launay and his brother's name was Jules Edward de Launay. They were born near Lake Arthur, Louisiana. I noticed my cousins husband, Tim Campbell, responded to your question. The time period is right -- they came to Louisiana around 1864--1865. I'm at the library right now and don't have my paperwork with me. You are welcome to call me at 704-487-9432. Are you related to the de Launay's? Please let me know. Dolores
