Hello, I spent a few months in Bainet, small town on the south coast of Haiti, september, october and november 1976. I am half french, half american, and I went to Haiti to paint. I met some very nice people in Bainet, the Pierre-Louis, the Laguerre and Madame Michele Macala. I was very young in those days, 25 years old, and being a young white woman alone in this country was hard to understand all the mysteries and customs of this extremelly fascinating country.
Madama Macala, who owned the only food store of Bainet gave me the opportunity to be helped in my everyday duties by a young orphan who was 13 years old in 1976. His name was Marc, very sweet, very handsome and funny. Later on, back in Saint Croix, US Virgin Islands, with a few photographs I took during my trip, I did a photorealist oil-painting of Marc, which I still have, because in 30 years of painting, it is my master-piece and never wanted to sell it. Marc is 41 years old now. I very often wonder what ever happened to him, since I look at his very realistic portrait every day. I only wish he is happy and safe, somewhere. If somebody knows him, or knows the people I mentionned further up in my message, please, give me some news of him. I would appreciate it very much. I worry so much about what is going on in Haiti-Cherie. God bless Haiti
