Loss to Roman Catholic Charities

The death took place yesterday of Mr Emile Purgold of Ullet Road, Consul in this city for Hayti and Vice-Consul for San Domingo. Mr Purgold who was 50 years of age was a native of Port-au-Prince, Hayti, and some 22 years ago started in business in Liverpool as a general merchant. He was an ardent Roman Catholic and devoted himself very earnestly towards furthering movements connected with that faith, being treasurer of St George's Boys Industrial schools; a member of the committee controlling Fr Berry's Homes and concerned himself with other similar charities. Among his hobbies was that of golf and for a time he held the position of captain of the Woolton Golf Club, where he was very popular.

The funeral of Mr Purgold, who leaves a widow and a large family, takes place on Wednesday at Allerton Cemetery at 11.45 am, a Requiem Mass being celebrated at St Charles Church, Aigburth Road at 10.30 am.
