My father, Louis Poulos (Elias Eliopoulos) came to America in 1916 from Toporista, Greece, which is located in the Peloponnese.
He settled in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where he first worked for the railroad there. He then moved to Chicago working in a restaurant and moved back to Co. Bluffs in the late 1920's.
He married and moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, around 1935 where he owned his own restaurant on (I believe) 13th and P Streets. He lived there for several years until he joined the US Army in 1942.
After he returned home from WWII he married my mom and raised his wife's six children from a previous marriage and also raised my younger sister and myself in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Your surname sounds very familiar to me and I was wondering if your grandfather might have been friends with my father and his then wife, Lucille. Dad use to mention a gentleman from Lincoln that he knew with the surname, Christakes.
Thanks for any response.. Dad died in 1988 and I promised him that I would search until I found his family in Greece that he lost contact with during WWII..
I was lucky enough to have the assistance of a wonderful Greek woman who connected me to my dad's nephews and niece in their old village.. It has been wonderful since that time. You may contact me at my personal email address as well.
It is: firstname.lastname@example.org
Looking forward to your reply.
