Indicted by The Clinton County NY grand jury Joseph Gravel of Au Sable Forks was indicted as a second offender, on a charge of assault with intent to commit rape. Gravel was indicted in that county in October, 1914, on a charge of burglary, but sentence was suspended. A little later he was indicted in Essex county for a similar crime and sentenced to the Elmira reformatory where he served sixteen months. Less than a week after his release from Elmira he committed the assault for which he has just been indicted. He entered a plea of guilty to the indictment. The Adirondack Record - 1917
