Yes, Abel Gower came to the United States from London England. There was also a ship called the Abel Gower.

I am in Nashville, TN. Are you in Nashville? I'm not sure how much you already know. Just in case...

There is a Gower Road in West Nashville that runs between Old Charlotte Pike and River Road (zip code 37209). The community is called "Centenary". That is where the original Gower school/church was located. My Grandfather went to school there. Gower Elementry School is now a Nashville Metro Public School located at 650 Old Hickory Blvd., 37209. My brother and I went to school there before they tore that building down and rebuilt it. My daughter went to school there after it was rebuilt. Most of my uncles, aunts and first cousins went to Gower School as well.

The Gower Cemetery is also located around 6809 Gower Road. Obedience Gower was the first that requested to be buried there. Most of the other family names you will see married into the family somehow. Some just didn't have a place to be buried. You can find most of who is buried there listed at www.DavidsonCoCemeterysurvey.com However, Emma Gower Hulan is buried with her husband in the Hulan Cemetery on what our family called Graveyard hill. Information on Hulan Cemetery provided by Henryetta Hulan Dotson. Henryetta is Emma Gower Hulan's Great Granddaughter as well as my Mother, Patrica Hulan Davids. Their Hulan Grandfathers were brothers. The early Hulans and Gowers were a very religious family. Most were associated with a chruch somehow.

Nashville's Public Library has books written on the Gower Family. There may be some pictures in them too. I'm still researching the Hulan Family (Emma Gower married George W. Hulan) so I haven't gotten so far as to research the Gowers. My Grandfather used to tell me stories. I wished I would have appreciated them enough back then to take notes.

You will probably run across the Abel Gower family in anything about the founder of Nashville, General James Robertson as the Gowers and Robertsons were cousins.

I read somewhere that the Gower Family in Canada and the ones in America are from the same family in England. I believe Abel's brother was shipwrecked and ended up in Canada. I will leave it to you to research that part for the facts.

I hope some of this information helps someone in researching the Gower Family.
