Hi Tracy, I live in Wellington, NZ. I knew one of my relations was a Goodgame and so I've been trying to find the link. I've found your web pages a great help. Thomas Goodgame (son of James & Frances) was married to my great great grandmother. You have her name as Clara Elizabeth Thompson, however it seems she was only known as Elizabeth. She was born on 16.4.1861 and immigrated to New Zealand with her family on board the Strathallan, which arrived in Napier on 17.12.1865. It seems Elizabeth may have had a child out of wedlock when she was 15 - Alice Maud Thompson (who is my great grandmother). Alice was born on 16.4.1876 (we think in Mauriceville). Elizabeth and Thomas Goodgame were married on 30.12.1880 at the home of Neil Thompson (her father) in Taradale, Napier. A few other updates for your web pages I have found are: James Goodgame died at the age of 58 years on 27.2.1882 and is buried in the Old Napier Cemetry. Mary Anne Goodgame (sp. rather than Marianne) James Jnr Goodgame - third marriage was to Elizabeth Bailie and they married on 27.12.1881. Their child (male Goodgame) may be William who was born in 1877 - but I've got a bit more investigating to do on that one! I hope this has helped you add a bit more to your family history puzzle. I will contact you again if I find any further details. Regards Lesley Dalziel |
