•       BIOGRAPHICAL PARAGRAPH - A.J. [ASA JAMES] GILSON, farmer and stock-breeder, was born in Huron Co., O., Aug., 31, 1819; is son of Asa and Nabby (ORMES) GILSON, also natives of Ohio. In 1854 he purchased 160 acres on sec. 32, with but 20 acres cleared, and now has 130 acres improved, with a handsome residence, built at an expenditure of $4,000. He values his farm at $80 per acre. He was married in Huron Co., O., Dec. 2, 1847, to Jane, daughter of John and Thankful J. MANLY, born in New York in 1828. Of five children born to them, four are living--Keziah, Asa, Charlie, Bell; Hattie, third child, is deceased. Mr. Gilson has established himself in life by his own efforts; is a Republican, and has been School Director. P.O., Lisbon. - History of Kent County, Michigan, Illustrated, Chicago: Chas. C.
