Hi Debita!

The entry on page 42 of the '51 census is quite startling. Does this mean I'm not a Gillis but really a Ginlap(?)
I have been in touch with another about Elinor Miller. It turns out Elinor is also her gg grandmother. After Roderick died she remarried William Meagher and had three more children. From New Brunswick the Meagers and Gilliss moved to the Niagara area in the 1870's. William worked on the Welland canal. Elinor died in 1905 and is burried with her son John Francis Desales Gillis in the Thorold Lakeview Cemetery.
They also provided me with some history about Roderick and Elinor's child Annie. Aparently her full name was Georgina Annie Gillis. She was born in 1849 and died in Indianapolis in 1943.She married a Davidson and her son was the aide-de-camp for general Pershing in WW1.They had no information on Julia Angeline Gillis.
They also had no information suggesting Elinor had been married before Roderick.
Could this entry on pg.42 be just a coincidence?
