Hi My wife was born a Gilbert and we have traced her lineage back to a Nathaniel Gilbert, b. 1674. Family lore has it that he was captured by indians as a teenager and held captive for 7 years. He escaped on ice skates. I think I saw this in print once about 35 years ago. Can anyone shed some light on Nathaniels parents? His wife was Rachel Strong.
