Our 5th great grandfather and some of his family migrated to the USA around 1850-1875. After they arrived, the name is spelled several ways: Stotera, Stoetera, and Stoterau are the most common. I believe they came from Holstein, possibly Lubeck. The family is:
Father - Johan Frederich Stotera born 1818
Mother - Catharina Augusta Blunck born 1822
Children:
Joachim born 1851
Heinrich Asmus born 1854
Frederich Wilhelm born 1856
Johann Detlef born 1858
Johan Christian born 1862
Carl Wilhelm born 1866

I would like to know where they came from, and where I can get more information on them. We know that Carl Wilhelm came here to the US and used the name William C. Also John Christian and Henry. Family stories say that Johan Detlef drown in Germany. We would like to know what happened to all these brothers. It is believed that all came to the US but we can only find records for two or three of them. We'd also like to know if the father ever came to the US.

Anything you can suggest is helpful.
