My Great Grandmother was Olga Schmidt. She apparently was born in the Volga Valley region of Russia and family lore says we are related to Catherine the Great of Russia. I could not find a connection but I did find that there was a trumpeter in Catherine's court, whose name was Schmidt. His wife,Mdme.Schmidt was in charge of Catherine's ladies in waiting. I wonder if this is what the family meant and just overstated their relationship to Catherine. As for Olga, she married Philemon Voltz. They moved to NY and had a daughter Augusta and two sons,Phillip , and William. Does anyone know anything about this family including ancestors, places they may have lived.. My great grand mother had a nickname. She was called Olga from the Volga. Hope this rings a bell for someone.
