OK, Here is the little article on the origine of the Geraci name: Italian Text: Jeraci Gerace e' un piccolo comune della provincia di Reggio Calabria, fondato nel nono secolo da profughi locresi. Ha dato vita a parechi cognomi: Gerace, Geraci, Iraci,e appunto Jeraci. Il senso dovrebbe dunque essere chiaro: il primo Jeraci fu conosciuto come tale perche' veniva da Gerace. Questo nome a sua volta esprime l'esitodi un processoetimologicoche da greco ha portatoall'italiano. Il luogoera chiamatooriginalmente Aghia Kuriake' che potremmo tradurre come Santa Ciriaca. Il nom del linguaggio popolare divenne sempre in grecco.Ierakion, diminutivo di falco, quindi falchetto. Quando l'italianoprese il posto dil grecco si arrivo' a Gerace che localmente era poi Jeraci, proprio come il cognome che e' diffuso in gran parte del Meridione. English text: Gerace is a small town in the provence of Reggio Calabria, founded in the ninth century by refugees from "locresi". They gave birth to a number of last names: Gerace, Geraci, and Jeraci. The meaning is clear, however, the first Jeraci was known as that because he came from Gerace. This name expresses the linguistic process from the greek to italian. The area was originally called Aghia Kuriake' which can be translated as Saint Ciriaca. In the common greek of the day this became Ierakion, which is the diminutive of falcon, therefore little falcon. When italian took over from the greek it became Gerace that locally became Jeraci. These names and their derivitives are found through out southern Italy.
