I am researching the family of James Henry George and Keziah Newsom. James was born in GA about 1812, son of Jesse George. Prior to the Civil War, he was a physician in St. Helena parish; after the war, he was a parish judge there. Keziah Newsom was the daughter of the planter Moses Newsom of St. Helena Parish, and his wife Martha Singleton. One of Keziah's sisters, Rhoda, married one of James's brothers, Joseph Travis George.

Based on census records, James and Keziah seem to have had 7 children. The oldest two, Andrew D (b. 1845) and Margaret A (b. 1847), seem to have died young- they appear in the 1850 census but are not in the 1860 census. At least four of the remaining five children married in Tangipahoa parish in the 1870s.

Maston B. M. George (b. 1849 in LA) married Sue Alice Bryant on 22 April 1874 in Tangipahoa. I have not been able to find his wife's family. In the 1880 census, Maston is enumerated as a farm worker in East Baton Rouge parish- his family is not shown, and I can't find anything further on him.

James L. George (b. 1851 in LA) married Letha McDaniel on 22 Nov 1873 in Tangipahoa. I believe Letha is possibly the daughter of the H. McDaniel and Nancy McDaniel resident in Tangipahoa parish in the 1870 census. They moved to Livingston Parish by 1880, East Baton Rouge Parish by 1900, and Caddo Parish by 1920. James seems to have died before 1930, when Letha was living in Jefferson County, MO with her youngest daughter and her family.

Moses P. George (b. 1853 in LA) married Louisa LNU about 1878- I suspect he also married in Tangipahoa parish, where he appears on the 1874 voters list, but haven't found a certificate yet. I haven't been able to find Moses in the 1880 census. In 1900, he and Louisa were living in East Baton Rouge parish. In 1910, Moses shows up in Natchitoches Parish with a new wife, Cecilia, who had previously been married to a Sullivan. I believe she is Cecilia Bennett. By 1920, Moses was in Tarrant County, TX, married to a third wife (Gertrude Brewer); he died there in 1922.

Martha Augusta George (b. 1854/5 in LA) married Henry J. Sanders on 16 Apr 1873 in Tangipahoa. I cannot find them together on any census records.

Georgia Alice R. George (b. 1858 in TX) married William Madison Prince on 29 August 1876 in Tangipahoa. I have not been able to find them in a census either.

I am interested in any information relating to the spouses of these Georges. I am also interested in the Texas link- judging from the birthplace of Georgia George, James and Keziah George seem to have sojourned in Texas sometime between 1855 (when Martha was born in LA) and 1860 (when they are back in St. Helena Parish for the census), and at least one of the George children (Moses) later moved back to Texas.
