Can anyone help me with the Thomas George family of Chester Co, Pa....with daughters intermarried to William Maxwell and Hugh Maxwell?
Do not believe this is same Thomas George died 1736 on the ship immigrating to America (could it be a son Thomas Jr?_
########################

On 22 Jul 1765, the will of Thomas George of Springfield
is probated, and in it he names his daughters "Jane, wife of
William Maxwell, and Margaret, wife of Hugh Maxwell". So,
we know that William's wife's name was Jane George, and Hugh
Maxwell's wife was Jane's sister, Margaret George, and they
were all married before 1765. Since brothers most often
married sisters when the name is held in common, it is a
fair assumption that William and Hugh were brothers.
I then furthered the search for Thomas George, and found
him in the 1765 tax list, in Springfield, with 150 acres of
land, 3 horses, 8 cows, 8 sheep, and no servants/slaves.
In the 1768 tax list, all in West Nottingham, are Andrew
Leaper (see above), William Maxwell (50 acres, 2 horses, 3
cows, 4 sheep and no servants), and James Maxwell (50 acres,
2 horses, 3 cows, 4 sheep and no servants--same as
William). By this time, Thomas George is dead. Hugh
Maxwell is found in Upper Providence Township, with 75 acres
of land, 2 horses, 3 cows, and no sheep or servants.
NOTE: There is an earlier Thomas George in Chester County,
but he is not the father of this Thomas George. A very
convoluted land record recorded in 1748 indicates that the
earlier Thomas George died before May of 1736. His wife was
Mary, and his children were : Elizabeth, (m. Elijah Barnes);
Rachell, (m. William Jamison) Hannah (m. Archibald
McCraken), Rebecca (m. _______ McBride and d. before 1748) ,
Sarah George and Ann George. There were no sons.
SO: We seem to have the following family:
James Maxwell, b. about 1730, who m. Jane Leper before
1757.
William Maxwell, b. abt. 1735(?) who md. Jane George
before 1765.
Hugh Maxwell, b. abt. 1735(?) who md. Margaret George
before 1765.
Robert Maxwell b. abt. 1731 who md. Elizabeth
Thomas Maxwell b. abt 1738 died 1785 Nott, Chester, Pa..married Ann Blackmar....THIS IS MY LINE>>>
