Jason All of the releases from v5.2 onwards can upgrade the v4.2 data files without having to go through the lossy gedcom route. The v4.2 release was limited to 32000 people and 999 sources. These are blown away in the later releases. Since v4.2 was designed to be Windows 3.1 compatible (yeah, it's that old), the length of the directory and filename was limited to a maximum of 32 characters. You had to use the old 8.3 format names as Windows 3.1 did not support spaces. For example, if you set a file in the "My Documents" diretory you had to refer to that directory/path using the Mydocu~1 (or similar Mydocu~<a number>) form. And so forth... Regards, Mike Hobart |
