Generations and Family Tree Maker are completely different programs. You will have to do a gedcom export from your Generations program and then do a gedcom import into Family Tree Maker, as the latter does not have the ability to read the Generations files directly.
Gedcom implementations vary and Gary Bonham had a great conversion utility called Gedcom Explorer. His www.gedx.com site appears to be off the web for good (sigh...) but there are copies of Gedcom Explorer available at various download sites (do a search on Google). It can be used for 30 days before registration is required (and which is simply not available any longeras far as I know - anyone know different?).
