Hi, Beware! Version 8.5a does not solve the issue of the database corruption which occurs when some process are loaded automatically on startup. I have 52,000 + names in my biggest database on Generations and I am tolerating the problems as there is no other choice as flexible a G8. I even bought a mac and the sister program but that would not read the files either. I just wish they would fix the issue or provide a utility to enable us to rebuild without the errors. My experimenting so far has determined it is caused by one of the startup processes. These can be removed, but automatic updates put them back. Perhaps you might be better going down the path of running the program in a "Virtual machine" which is a feature in Vista which might allow you to run a virtual windows XP which would load your program as if it was in a native XP environment. You can then have a setup which will keep you insulated from the database corruption as well. (I don't know how to set this up, but somebody else reading might!) Cheers Rick |
