If you cannot open .uds family files using Generations v8.5a, then I agree, the family files are probably corrupted. You could try uninstalling and reinstalling Generations. Not being able to open the files is the only test that I know of to prove that they are corrupt.

You should also double check that the family files are not set to read only.
