If you are, like me, an unlucky sucker who decided to upgrade to Version #11 [with 10 CDs], and you have Windows 95,98 or ME, then you are have a piece of crap.
I bought 9/30/2003 and installed it over my older version - when I tried to use one of the first 5 CDs, they all appear as just lists of stuff available to buy from FTM - even worse, when I attempted to access the other 5, the computer did one or more of the following: [locked up] [dropped an error box stating THIS PROGRAM HAS COMMITTED ERRORS DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH MEMORY NOT ENOUGH HARD DISC SPACE AND WILL BE TERMINATED CRASH GOES THE COMPUTER], AND [FTW ERROR IN KERNEL32.EXE].
Lest you think I am a whiner, I quote from a reply from Family Tree Maker; "Despite intensive product testing, WE DID NOT DISCOVER THIS ISSUE UNTIL FTM 11 HAD ALREADY BEEN RELEASED. This issue only affects customers using Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows ME. Our developers are investigating a solution for the problem, but to date, NO WORKAROUND EXISTS."
Now, is this a rip off? a piece of crap? Guess what I think? I paid $72 for this so called UPDATE?
