Sir: I think that perhaps you have mixed up two different things.

Childermas is the day that liturgical churches celebrate the slaughter of the Holy Innocents by King Herod in his search for the Christ Child.

John Childermas of Jamaica: I am descended from him through his daughter Katherine who married Capt. John Croft. The baptism of Katherine Childermas (daughter of John Childermas and Cecilia) is recorded in Jamaica. Capt. John Croft and his wife Katherine are first found in Virginia and supposedly moved to Charleston, SC about 1700 at the invitation of Colonel Rhett. John Croft was one of the judges at the trial of the pirates in Charleston. You may find more information my lineage on ancestry.com.
