According to the IGI, this occured 21 Sept. 1846 in Alton IL., but census and Civil War records are consistently OH (Fairfield OH according to his Civil War record). Both parents, William E. and Mary were born in NY according to 1850-80 census records. Mary's maiden name may be Schanck or Schenck according to one family history I found. This may be Ira's middle name. Looking for a definitive birth record or baptism/christening to prove this connection and illuminate ancestry.
