Hi there: While I cannot give you the exact linkage, it is very likely the name traces to Peter Ransom b 1679 in Gloucester VA. He marries a Dorothy North and has two children that I have found (on the web)- an Ann Ransom who marries John Boswell (the III) in 1727 in Abington Parish, Gloucester VA, and a Richard Ransom who apparently has a son Augustine Ransom. Since the name Augustine shows up in the Geer line a little later (1805), I suspect Richard Ransom could be your link. Our tie comes from the children of John and Mary Lamb, several of whom marry Watsons & the Polly Lamb who marries Ransom Gear. I think the link between our Lamb & Boswells and the Watson and Gear families is the Gholson family (Nathaniel Gear's wife being Elizabeth Gholson). I cannot prove it yet (if ever), but I strongly suspect the Mary who is the wife of John Lamb (b @ 1744 Orange VA) is also a Gholson, a sister to Elizabeth. I have been looking at Louisa VA and surrounding records, but so far no smoking gun - just an awful lot of proximity among these family names. Hope this helps a little. Cheers.
