From Cass Griffin I learned that Absolom Milton was the son of Arthur Gary and Elizabeth "Betsy" Ponder. Arthur was the son of Thomas West Gary and Rebecca Jones (buried in Butler Co. AL); Arthur was the son of Charles Gary and Patience West of Newberry Co., S.C.; Charles moved to S.C. from Virginia in the 1750s. They were active in the Bush River Baptist Church, which is where Charles and a number of other Garys are buried. (The church still exists, at the end of Gary's Lane which runs between Bush River and the community of Gary.)
As you probably know, Absolom Milton was married to Rebecca Fincher Gary, daughter of Rev. Isaac H. Gary and Sarah Little Manning. You may not know that Isaac was Arthur Gary's youngest brother, making Absolom and Rebecca first cousins.
I'm descended from A.M. Gary's son, Charles Wesley. I would be very interested in any information you have about your branch of the family. My information is that Mary ("Molly") married James Bridges and that they probably lived for a while in Zavala Co. near Charles Wesley Gary and his family. After that, though, the family lost track of them and we don't have any information on them. Please contact me through this message board or directly by e-mail.
