Hi Barbara, I was in a hurry this A.M. didn't put all info on. John Gabriel in census of 1870 in Choctaw Co. Ms. is listed alone. no family.(my Hughes family was also in Choctaw Co at that time). Charleston Court House in Ms. marriage records show, John N. Gabel and Mrs. Frances F. Pruett married on 31 March 1872 in Tallahatchie Co. Mississippi. on their marriage lic. they are listed as Gabel and on 1880 census of Tallahatchie Co. they are listed as Gabriel. On other records they go back and forth with Gabel and Gabriel. But ON their tomestone it reads Gabriel. Two of their sons William and John are buried beside Sarah Frances Gabriel. John is buried there they say. but no tomestone is found. I have a lot of history on the Gabel family just not sure it is ours. I ask my father once years ago, what their name was, he said Gabel. What do you think? Sarah Frances F. Gabriel died Feb. 20, 1917. John died about 1915. How many children do you have for them ? I have Mattie Pruett b-1870, Eliza b-1872, John b-1875, Louella b-1877 (mine), William W. b-1879. this is off the 1880 census ,page 31, dist.3,dist no, 106, household no. 272@272 Tallahatchie Co Ms. Please get back to me with your thoughts on their names Gabel or Gabriel. Ruth
