May I suggest the RootsWeb website at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rwguide/index.html. This is the Index to the RootsWeb guide to genealogy, and includes a section on the US censuses and ways to access them. The census that Bill referred to provides the name of Marvin's father, his mother's given name, the ages and occupation, their birth state, and names, relationship, age, sex, and race of other members of the household. Marvin's father, William H. Lawrance and wife Matilda, are also found in the 1900 census of Catoosa County. The censuses are the primary tool for genealogical research in the U.S. for the 19th and 20th centuries and the above website is a good place to learn more about them. |
