I am doing an in depth study of the RAINWATER and connected families buried in the Vernon Cemetery in Paulding Co. GA. One of the Rainwater girls, Susannah b c 1812, married William LEWIS b c 1819, about 1837 in Benton or Cherokee Co. AL. They are in Cherokee Co. AL on the 1840 census, Cobb Co. GA on the 1850 census, and Paulding Co GA for the 1860 census. 1870 census has Susannah and one daughter, Martha J. alone on the census. Son William J. Lewis age 23 and wife Nancy A. 30, children Samuel W. 3 and Susan S. 2, are living next door. The 1870 Mortality schedule has William Lewis age 52 died Nov 1869 and son James age 20 died January 1870 of typhoid. Both William and son James are buried in the Vernon Cemetery.

I didnít find William J. on the 1880 census, but in 1900, William J. b June 1847 is in Randolph Co. AL with wife Martha R. b April 1849 and also in his household is Mary WISENER b May 1845, aunt, widowed, no children born and none living.

Questions: Who is this Mary Wisener? What are the maiden names of 1st wife Nancy A. and 2nd wife Martha R.? Williamís aunt Mary, sister of Susannah was born about 1823 married Samuel J. Reynolds and was deceased before 1900. William Lewis, son of Seth Lewis, from what I have been able to determine, didnít have a sister Mary. So is this Mary Wisener an aunt to Martha R. or is this a cousin that is being called an aunt? What happened to Susannah? I havenít found her after 1870 census. What happened to William J.ís daughter Susan? Son Samuel is in Bibb Co. AL on 1900, 1910 and 1920 censuses.

Children of William and Susannah Rainwater Lewis are:
Pinkney b 1838 m Martha A. Harris, he died in CW 1865, Martha died prior to 1880 as their children are in Henry Felixís household on the 1880 census.

Mary F. b 1841 m Nathaniel Greenberry Paris, son of Elias Paris, July 1858 in Paulding Co GA. Mary died, apparently in childbirth, as both Mary and her baby are buried in Vernon Cemetery, and Nathaniel m 2nd Sarah Powell 25 Dec. 1859.

Henry Felix b 22 April 1844 married twice and died 1915 in MO.

James Ė b 1850 died 1870

Martha J. b 1855 m T. S. Weathers on 18 July 1871 in Paulding Co. GA. Havenít been able to track this couple yet, they have an infant buried in the Vernon Cemetery.

Any information on these families appreciated.
