I am related by marriage. My mother-in-law is Marvin's daughter from his marriage to Edith Hathorn. That is, I am married to his granddaughter. It is on Anita Maxine "Fortenberry" Dees that I am seeking any information I can locate on her father. She is 79 years of age and simply wants to know a little something about him before she dies. Marvin left when she was just a month or so old.
After he abandoned his family in 1927 he was after a long search declared "legally" dead in Laural, Jones County, MS.
Other than the public postings of his being declared "legally" dead in the Laural newspaper I have no other real information about him. Your mentioning two subsequent marriages is new information to me.
I have a couple of photos of him in his military uniform and I understand that he was a part of the Army of Occupation in Germany following WWI. At the time he disappeared he was driving a truck for a living.
I had heard that he had gone to California and that he died there in the early 1980's. Suppoosedly the Verternan's Administration had notified Edith of his death. No other information was provided.
So, as you can see I know little about the man. I am howver interested in anything you can share. I am happy to exchange photos with you via regular e-mail if you like.
