Dear Mr. Privoznik, Your entry #57 puzzled me. Your reference to Alita Hendrickse Lansing who married Isaac Fonda and had a daughter Alida, sounds very much like the Alida Lansing in our family chart who was b.1685,d.March1748,daughter of Hendrick Lansing, d.11July1709, m.Lysbet, and son of Gerrit Lansing. Our Alida m. Isaac Fonda, b. March 1684 (no marriage date) and they had a daughter, Elizabeth Fonda, b.4July1711,NY, d.8Aug1797 Saratoga,NY, m. Wouter Knickerbocker, b.17Oct.1712, Albany, NY, d. 8Aug1797 Saratoga,NY. In our family, Wouter and Elizabeth are 9th generation ancestors, Isaac and Alida,10th gen. and Hendrick and Gerrit Lansing, 11th and 12th, respectively. Isaac Fonda is the son of Douw Jillise Fonda,d.24Nov.1700 and Rebecca, and grandson of Jilles Douwese Fonda and Hester (no dates). As you say Isaac and Alita had a daughter named Alida, could there have been a spelling slip in one or the other name for what appears to be the same person? Perhaps I read it wrong and you meant that Aaltje and Douw Fonda had a daughter named Alida. It is so close to his mother's name, again I wonder if it is not a spelling slip. Could you tell me what your opinion is about this? Thank you. CHW
