Lisa, I had a great day at the NY public library yesterday and I think there is only one Jacob Claudius Flagg who outlived three wives! The following is what appears in the federal census, working backwards from 1930: 1930: Brewington, Clarendon County SC D. Malloy Wilson head of household, 52 farmer Julia E. wife, 50, public school teacher Duncan M., son, 19, farmer Florence M., daughter, 22 Jacob C. Flagg, 92, father-in-law 1920: Brewington, Clarendon County, SC Duncan M. Wilson, head of household, 42 farmer Julia E. 40 wife Jacob E. 17 son Miriam E. 15 daughter Flori B. 11 daughter Duncan M. Jr. 8 son Jacob C. Flagg 80 Father in law Miriam E. spouse (sorry I forgot to note her age...I'll check next time) 1910: Brewington, Clarendon County, SC Duncan Wilson 32, head of household, farmer Julie E. 30 wife Jacob A. 6 son Myrum E. 5 daughter Florance M. 1 daughter Jacob C. Flag, 71, railroad, stepfather M. Wyrinn E.Flag,66 (I think this is Miriam Elizabeth Ellerbe Wilson Flagg...does the Wyrinn name ring any bells for you? I have to recheck this too - either it didn't list a relationship for her or I didn't write it down - I also want to check that I copied the age correctly as that is a few years off from her birthdate, but as always in the census, the info was only as good as the person providing it) Maybell Flag 22, half sister (sic, but really his step sister, not half sister) (note I have spelled the names as they were recorded) 1900: Mt. Zion, Clarendon County, SC JC Flagg, 61 JE Flagg 21 (I believe she shows up as Julia E in the 1910 census, as the wife of Duncan Wilson) RB Flagg 17 MB Flagg 13 (I believe it is she who shows up as Maybel in the 1910 census) 1890 does not include South Carolina 1880 Charleston SC J. C. Flagg 41 Julia 29 wife Julia E. 1 daughter Also found the death certificate index listing for Miriam: She appears in that index as Miriam N. Flagg, age 77, died 20 November 1924. Hope you find some interesting nuggets here!
