Miles -- Do you know in what regiments your Frank Harris fought? I am attempting to delve more deeply into War records. Our Francis Eppes Harris (the Ocala Banner guy) fought with the 1st Florida Infantry Regiment. His brother (my gg-grandfather) Alexander Ewing Harris Jr. is reported to have fought with the "Georgia Militia", which covers a lot of units in my cursory beginning to look at this issue. AE then settled and married in Decatur County GA. I think another good line of inquiry would be to check further into the D.C. certification of the name "Lake Harris". I'm sure you already know about Jefferson's secretary, Francis Eppes Harris, who was a blood relative of Jefferson's wife. |
