I have an Elizabeth Firman who married my ggrandfather circa 1880-90 (the era is an educated guess). They lived in Ipswich and their son William Ernest Mayes was born in the parish of St Clements in 1893. I'm afraid that I've no info that goes any further back than that, but I have one or 2 more bits and pieces that might help if you think there might be a connection.
