For the last few months I have been researching my family tree. My grandmothers maiden name was Ellen Ferrett. She married Charles Benton. Their children were Bert (my Father), Percy, Gladys, Nellie (known as May), Alice (known as Amy), Betsy (known as Betty). These names appear in your message and must be the same. Ellen Ferrett was born in 1883. Her father was called John and he had 3 brothers George,William and Tom. Ellen had a brother and 3 sisters called William, Edwina, Alice and Lily. I understand from my mother who is still alive that Ellen did not get on with her step mother and ran away at a young age. Her brother ran away and joined the navy. My particular interest has been with Tom Ferrett about which there is a great deal of family history. He fought in the Boer War and was decorated by Queen Victoria as "one of the 5 bravest men in the South African Campaign".I have all of his army papers and have traced the whereabouts of medals etc. For some of the people mentioned above I have birth, death, marriage certificates.I think some of the names that you think are the same generation are not quite correct. For the moment I cannot get my head around how we are related but I think we must be. The reference by Glennyse Burrows to South Africa connection may well tie-up with my information relating to Tom. If their family tree is available that would be interesting. I have all of Toms discharge papers, dates, addresses etc.
Hope this is of use.
