We found a John Feltman on the 1870 census for Walker County, Alabama. He was a young man. Feltman is an unusual name and there aren't that many. We have discovered most are of German descent. One of our ancestors was a young woman named Sarah Gray. Her first husband, Ben Gray, lost his life in the War Between the States. Family tradition had it that Sarah married Tom Feltman either in the last years of the war or immediately after. Perhaps Tom was incorrect and should have been John. The John Feltman on the 1870 census had a wife, Sarah, and a son, Will, who was ll years old. Sarah and Ben Gray had a 4 month old baby son in 1860. We expected to find William Z. Gray listed as a step child, but Will on the 1870 census was included under the Feltman name. Do you have any information about this John Feltman? We would really appreciate any information you might have about him.
