I have started an ETHERINGTON & HETHERINGTON surname DNA study with the company Family Tree DNA. Check out the web page I have set up at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/etherington/ Until June 24, 2009 they have a special for anyone getting the 37-marker y-chromosome DNA test (for males only) coupled with testing of mitochondrial DNA. This test is about half the usual cost, but needs to be ordered through a surname study in order to take advantage of the special. Have a look at the company's website, and if you were thinking of getting your DNA tested, now might be a good time to do it. I have been researching ETHERINGTON families for a long time - initially in Australia & England, but more recently extending it to New Zealand & other countries. I am interested in collecting details of all ETHERINGTON descendants. You might like to see my own web page at www.austega.com/familyhistory/names/etheringtons.htm I hope to be able to connect some of the currently separate Etherington families and find which have a common ancestor, and DNA might answer some questions which are harder to answer by only following a "paper trail".
