I have found several non-primary sources listing JOSEPH EDWARDS (1742-1794) as a son of WILLIAM HARRISON EDWARDS (1720-1808), and therefore a grandson of THOMAS NATHANIEL EDWARDS and ELIZABETH ISABELLA DOWNING. Joseph predeceased William, which would explain why the former isn't mentioned in the latter's will. Some sources list Joseph's mother as POLLY CREAMER/CRAMER; others give a presumably earlier wife of William's, ISABELLE CHALMERS/CHAMBERS. Joseph married MARY ANNE BELL (1744-1808) of Augusta County, Virginia, and they were the parents of JOHN EDWARDS who married ELLEN OLIVE EXUM. Their descendants, at least on my line, lived in Virginia and the Carolinas. I don't know anything about Joseph's birthplace. I haven't found any sources mentioning a different father, but I've seen enough sources on William that eliminate Joseph to make me suspicious of those that include him. Does anyone here have any evidence either way?
