Alan:

Okay. We know that arms are not granted to families but are "assigned" to individuals. However, as you explained to me in detail and I have found through my own reading, there are graphic "threads" (the devices) which so often continue on through one member of a family to the next and, indeed, to branches of same. By this I mean, the Talbot lion, which appears on some Eaton arms; the Corbet(t) ravens; the Pantulph ermine, the Cot(t)on cotton balls; and so forth. Since theese "threads" seem to weave a family fabric, can we discount them. Must we?

What say you?

Rick
